The President of the United States of America, authorized by Executive Order 11046, 24 August 1962, takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Sergeant First Class Jeffery G. Piper, United States Army, for exceptionally valorous achievement from 30 March 2003 to 15 December 2003 while assigned as a Patrol Commander, Company B, 124th Signal Battalion, 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized, during Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. Sergeant First Class Piper showed courage, bravery, and disregard for his own personal safety while rushing to the aid of wounded soldiers and ensuring their safety when a vehicle struck an improvised explosive device during combat operations. His dedication to duty and competence reflect distinct credit on him, the 4th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
