Headquarters, 25th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 4447 (March 31, 1969)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class Eldon Sellars (ASN: RA-24755536), United States Army, for gallantry in action. Sergeant First Class Sellars distinguished himself by heroic actions on 23 February 1969, while serving with Battery C, 2d Battalion, 77th Field Artillery in the Republic of Vietnam. C Battery was established at Fire Support Base MAHONE when they came under an intense attack from a large enemy force. Sergeant Sellars immediately moved ********** and placed a devastating barrage of fire on the insurgents. Spotting several men that had been wounded by the deadly Viet Cong shelling, *****(he) exposed himself as he moved through the bullet swept area to the aid of his fallen comrades and safely evacuated them to a secure position. Returning to the battery area, Sergeant Sellars fearlessly moved from howitzer to howitzer, checking on his men and adjusting their fire. His valorous actions were responsible for saving several lives and the defeat of the enemy force. Sergeant Sellars’ personal bravery, aggressiveness, and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, the 25th Infantry Division and the United States Army.
