The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to First Lieutenant William Sully Beebe, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 23 April 1864, while serving with U.S. Army Ordinance, in action at Cane River Crossing, Louisiana. First Lieutenant Beebe voluntarily led a successful assault on a fortified position.
