The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Captain (Field Artillery) Michael Paulick (ASN: 0-23060), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as Commanding Officer of Reconnaissance Company, 601st Tank Destroyer Battalion, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Sicily, during July and August 1943. During a bitterly fought engagement with the enemy, Captain Paulick left the comparative safety of an observation post and proceeded through terrain under intense enemy artillery fire to the aid of a wounded soldier. His dauntless courage won him the admiration and respect of the men he led. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Paulick, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
