The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Field Artillery) Michael Paulick (ASN: 0-23060), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as Commanding Officer of Reconnaissance Company, 601st Tank Destroyer Battalion, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa, during the period from January to April 1943. While under direct enemy fire during a heavy engagement, Captain Paulick, by the strategic use of his company in sorties against enemy positions, was able to determine the strength and composition of enemy forces and to materially assist in their defeat. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Paulick, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
