The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade John A. Repchak (ASN: 35400677), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Medical Detachment, 44th Armored Infantry Battalion, 6th Armored Division, in action in France, Belgium and Luxembourg during the period 28 July 1944 to 26 January 1945. As litter squad leader, he frequently went under heavy artillery and small arms fire to give medical aid to seriously wounded men and to evacuate them to the aid station without loss of time. On one occasion, near Bastogne, Belgium, on 1 January 1945, he ran fifty yards under dangerous sniper fire to render aid to a wounded soldier. His personal courage, stamina, and aggressiveness have been responsible for saving the lives of many battle casualties and are in keeping with the finest traditions of the United States Army.
