The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Chester Stine (ASN: 34924552), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 44th Armored Infantry Battalion, 6th Armored Division, in action in the vicinity of Volkingen, France, on 20 December 1944. While serving as first scout on a patrol, he was pinned down by heavy rifle fire and grenades. Picking up a grenade that had been thrown at him, he returned it and wounded several enemy troops. His actions in fighting his way out of almost certain death are in keeping with the finest traditions of the United States Infantryman.
