The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Warrant Officer, Junior Grade Emmett L. Baker (ASN: W-2132796), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Service Company, 44th Armored Infantry Battalion, 6th Armored Division, in action in the vicinity of Bastogne, Belgium, on 9 January 1945. Despite the heavy enemy fire that was being delivered upon one of our tanks that had been lost, Warrant Officer, Junior Grade Baker directed a wrecker to the shelled area and personally worked on the vehicle and helped tow it away. His courage and determination resulted in the recovery of equipment particularly vital at that time.
