The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Lowell A. Huckaby (ASN: 37509003), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company A, 44th Armored Infantry Battalion, 6th Armored Division, in action in Belgium during the period 5 January 1945 to 9 January 1945. While manning a forward observation post, he was instrumental in repelling every effort of the enemy to encircle or dislodge him and his two companions. Shortly after midnight they repulsed five attempts by the enemy to overrun their position, withdrawing to their own lines only after all ammunition had been exhausted. Private First Class Huckaby’s information was of prime importance and resulted in decisively routing the enemy. His courageous and aggressive determination is in keeping with the finest traditions of the fighting Infantryman.
