Headquarters, SEVENTH U.S. Army, General Orders No. 318 (July 16, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private First Class Marco Zagha (ASN: 32974621), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as a Litter Bearer with the 398th Infantry Regiment, 100th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces on 9 January 1945, in the vicinity of Rimling, France. During the German counteroffensive on the SEVENTH Army front, when enemy artillery and direct tank fire became so intense that drivers of medical vehicles were ordered not to go forward to an advanced collecting point, Private Zagha journeyed forth over the dangerous route to complete four consecutive trips, and returned at least ten seriously wounded men. The delivery of these casualties to the medical station was instrumental in saving their lives. Private First Class Zagha’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 100th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
