The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private First Class Theodore Yuhasz (ASN: 32005681), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 157th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces in September 1943, in Italy. When his platoon was advancing and a strong German counter-attack, led by tanks, developed, Private First Class Yuhasz and a fellow soldier took their rocket launcher to the top of an advanced ridge, which was being swept by intense machine gun fire from approaching tanks. There they fired at one tank and disabled it, but their launcher was also made useless as the shot they fired split the tube of their weapon. While his companion returned to the rear in search of another launcher, Private First Class Yuhasz remained on the ridge exposed to constant shelling. Realizing his comrade would be unable to return in time, he pulled the pins from the remaining rockets and hurled them at the enemy tanks, causing three to halt. This delay permitted friendly troops to advance on time and repulse the enemy counterattack. The exemplary courage, quick thinking and aggressive action of Private First Class Yuhasz set an inspiring example to the men of his company and reflected the highest traditions of the Armed Forces.
