(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Staff Sergeant Thomas B. Williams, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as a Medical Aidman with the 116th Medical Detachment, 41st Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces at the beachhead on Biak Island, Schouten Group, on 5 June 1944. A member of an undefended medical personnel group, Staff Sergeant Williams crawled forward over open ground to attend members of his group who had been struck down by enemy fire. He was wounded three times while dragging men to safety, and then he led the men under his care from the dangerously exposed position. Staff Sergeant Williams’ extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
