The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Private William John Brewer, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 4 April 1865, while serving with Company C, 2d New York Cavalry, in action at Appomattox Campaign, Virginia, for capture of Engineer Flag, Army of Northern Virginia.
