(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Captain (Infantry) William Edwin Webb (ASN: 0-391031), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as Commanding Officer of an Infantry Company of the 41st Infantry Regiment, 41st Division, Philippine Army, in action against enemy forces near Mabatang, Luzon, Philippine Islands on 12 January 1942. Captain Webb led a counterattack which resulted in pushing back the enemy and prevented a possible flanking movement of his regiment. Captain Webb’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
