(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Technician Fifth Grade Clarence Carl Vorpahl, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as a Medical Aidman with the 32d Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces at Kwajalein Atoll, Marshal Islands, on 4 February 1944. Assigned as one of the assault companies as First Aidman, Technician Fifth Grade Vorpahl, seeing a rifleman of a neighboring unit fall wounded, left the covered position occupied by his own unit, and proceeded across open ground to the aid of the wounded man. He was under enemy rifle and machine gun fire while administering first aid, and was wounded twice himself while endeavoring to save the life of the rifleman. Technician Fifth Grade Vorpahl’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 32d Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
