The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Lieutenant Colonel (Armor) John Hadley Todd (ASN: 0-330365), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion, 13th Armored Regiment, 1st Armored Division, in action against enemy forces in North Africa, from November 1942 through 28 December 1942. Colonel Todd repeatedly distinguished himself by outstanding heroism and leadership, frequently leaving places of comparative safety to accompany his men, always going with those in greatest danger. His gallant conduct and his desire to be with his men were an inspiration to them, and exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States reflecting great credit upon himself, the 1st Armored Division, and the United States Army.
