The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Frank Tenebruso (ASN: 6150342), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Battery A, 7th Field Artillery Battalion, 1st Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces near La Macta, Algeria, North Africa, on 9 November 1942. Corporal Tenebruso supervised the emplacement of a heavy machine gun and operated it himself during an enemy attack on his battery position. He brought direct fire on the enemy, destroying three machine gun nests and enabling the gun sections to take up new positions. He then secured another machine gun, manned it with members of his crew, and supervised the operation of both while bringing up ammunition. He then repaired the damaged wire communications and conveyed the location of the enemy positions to his Battery Commander. The enemy was halted and ultimately forced to withdraw by these actins. His coolness and courage under fire and his tenacious refusal to withdraw were a profound inspiration to the members of his unit and exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States, reflecting great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
