(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Captain (Philippine Constabulary) Jose Tando (Taqdo), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion, 1st Philippine Constabulary Regiment, 1st Division, Philippine Army, in action against enemy forces in the vicinity of Anyasan Point, Bataan, Philippine Islands, on 9 February 1942. When an enemy gun emplacement was inflicting heavy casualties, Captain Tando crept forward and personally put the weapon out of action with a direct grenade hit. Captain Tando’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
