    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Andrew Jackson Swain, II (ASN: 11018842), United States Army Air Forces, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving wan Aerial Gunner of a B-25 Mitchell Bomber in the 3d Bombardment Group (Light), Far East Air Force, in aerial operations in the Southwest Pacific Theater of Operations, in 1942. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Corporal Swain, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.

    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Andrew Jackson Swain, II (ASN: 11018842), United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as Gunner on a B-25 Medium Bomber in the 3d Bombardment Group (L), FAR EAST Air Force, while participating in a bombing mission on 30 April 1942, against enemy targets near Lae, New Guinea, in the Southwest Pacific Theater of Operations. When five Japanese fighters made constant attacks on Corporal Swain’s B-25 over a period of 35 minutes, he valiantly manned his guns and shot down three of the enemy planes. The gunnery skills, personal courage, and zealous devotion to duty displayed by Corporal Swain on this occasion have upheld the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the Far East Air Force, and the United States Army Air Forces.
