During an Armored attack, First Lieutenant Straight’s platoon moved against the enemy’s right flank. After his commander’s halftrack was knocked out, he continued to attack until three of his five halftracks, including the command vehicle, were disabled by enemy fire. First Lieutenant Straight then dismounted the platoon and continued the counterattack on foot and succeeded in occupying part of the objective. Although his platoon was outflanked and surrounded, they continued to resist under First Lieutenant Straight’s leadership until all were either killed, or wounded and captured. First Lieutenant Straight’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
