(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private First Class Cleave Earl Sinor (ASN: 38293138), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company A, 1st Battalion, 165th Infantry Regiment, 27th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces at Saipan, on 18 June 1944. When the platoon of which Private First Class Sinor was the automatic weapon gunner was overrun in a surprise attack at nightfall and the remainder of the platoon fell back, Private First Class Sinor refused to retreat and deliberately remained in position to fire upon the enemy although he knew it meant certain death. This heroic action, which delayed the enemy sufficiently to enable our forces to establish the line and affect an orderly withdrawal exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
