First Lieutenant Sims crawled out of his foxhole and secured information that enabled the placement of mortar fire on enemy guns. Communication equipment he carried with him rendered effective concealment impossible, and he was killed by enemy machine gun fire. First Lieutenant Sims’ extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
