    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private First Class Edward Fitzhugh Servis, Jr. (ASN: 37390095), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with an Infantry Company of the 335th Infantry Regiment, 84th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces in Germany, on 24 February 1945. Private First Class Servis engaged in a one-man bayonet charge through heavy enemy fire to capture three machine guns and ten German soldiers near the Rohr River. His actions enabled his unit to reach the Rhine River ahead of other American forces. Private First Class Servis’ extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 84th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
