Headquarters, FIRST U.S. Army, General Orders No. 69 (October 16, 1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Sergeant Felix Scoroposki (ASN: 32013713), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 60th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces in Normandy, France, on 15 June 1944. A strong enemy infantry force supported by tanks counterattacked the position of Company B, 60th Infantry Regiment. When the Company Commander was wounded, First Sergeant Scoroposki directed the establishment of a firing line upon a hedgerow. An enemy squad supported by a tank was only 100 yards away And was moving towards his position. First Sergeant Scoroposki fearlessly stood up in plain view of the enemy, firing anti-tank grenades from his carbine and rockets from a rocket launcher, routed the enemy tank. Then, firing an automatic rifle and throwing hand grenades, he completely stopped the attack of the enemy squad. When the enemy attempted a new assault, First Sergeant Scoroposki alone maneuvered a light machine gun, the crew of which had been put out of action, into position for highly effective fire. He brought such devastating fire to bear upon the enemy that this las assault of the Germans was broken up and the counterattack smashed. The personal bravery and courageous leadership displayed by First Sergeant Scoroposki was an inspiration to his men exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 9th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
