Headquarters, 90th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 22 (July 3, 1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Robert H. Schulz (ASN: 0-25303), United States Army, for gallantry in action in northern France while serving with the 90th Infantry Division. On 11 June 1944 a rifle squad in the attack was pinned down by fire from enemy machine guns. Captain Schulz, a Battalion Executive Officer, arriving and finding the platoon leader had been wounded, with disregard for his own safety brought forward a telephone and crawled forward to where he could direct mortar fire into the machine gun positions following which he personally led a bayonet charge resulting in destruction of the enemy.
