On that date, Lieutenant Shulman flew his aircraft with daring and experience through anti-aircraft fire to drop his load of paratroopers on the drop zone. Above the drop zone fire broke from a direct hit of anti-aircraft fire. With fire streaming from its port engine, Lieutenant Shulman held it steadily on course, allowing the entire stick of paratroopers jump right through the fire into their target before the airplane, continuing past the drop zone, crashed in flames. Second Lieutenant Shulman’s unquestionable valor in aerial combat is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflects great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
