    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private Burdette Annan Schroeder (ASN: 36028699), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with an Infantry Company of the 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, in action against enemy forces at Los Negros Island, Admiralty Group, on 4 March 1944. Private Schroeder charged out of his foxhole with a damaged gun and single-handed, killed eight out of a group of 12 enemy soldiers who attempted an advance on his sector. He then assumed his position in his foxhole and kept the enemy pinned down until the arrival of a machine gun company. Private Schroeder’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
