(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Technical Sergeant Lloyd A. Russell, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company C, 1st Battalion, 378th Infantry Regiment, 95th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces near Merten, France, on 28 November 1944. When his company was being annihilated by German small arms and shell fire, Technical Sergeant Russell single-handedly wiped out an entire enemy gun crew and another dangerous enemy position. Technical Sergeant Russell’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 95th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
