Ross (ASN: 19015905), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company D, 1st Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces at Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands, on 14 January 1943. Private Ross was member of a machine-gun section during an attack on a strongly-held enemy position. He was fatally injured when attempting to evacuate a wounded companion, whose life was saved.
