The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Lieutenant Colonel (Air Corps) Stanley Keith Robinson (ASN: 0-17388), United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as Pilot of a B-17 Heavy Bomber in the Headquarters, 7th Bombardment Group (H), TENTH Air Force, while participating in a bombing mission on 27 and 29 January 1942, against enemy Japanese surface vessels in the Southwest Pacific Theater of Operations. On 27 January 1942, less than a week after his arrival in a combat area, Colonel Robinson led his fourth mission against enemy shipping. Forcing the bombing un through against heavy anti-aircraft fire and strong pursuit attacks, he sank one large transport and hit another and damaged a cruiser. Two days later, having been directed not to fly for several days because of the fatiguing missions he had accomplished already, he insisted in participating in a new and hazardous flight because three of the bombardment crew were entering combat for the first time. He led the formation to the target successfully but on the return trip was attacked by enemy pursuit ships and crashed at sea. The personal courage and zealous devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Colonel Robinson on this occasion, at the cost of his life, have upheld the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 10th Air Force, and the United States Army Air Forces.
