(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Peter Preslipsky (ASN: 33177591), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company C, 1st Battalion, 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces in France, on 7 August 1944. Two German tanks were firing from the roadway into the woods at point-blank range, halting the advance of Company C. Private Preslipsky burst away from his pinned-down squad and advanced alone on the first Mark IV tank, destroying it with bazooka. Running alongside the second tank, from a hedgerow he destroyed it. The two burning Mark IV’s blocked the road, causing the trailing German tanks to pile up behind them, making them easy targets for rocket-firing Typhoon planes and Thunderbolts, thereby halting the enemy advance. Private Preslipsky’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 30th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
