    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant (Air Corps) Charles Kenneth Pittman (ASN: 0-666841), United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as Co-Pilot of a B-24 Bomber of the 9th Bombardment Squadron, 7th Bombardment Group, TENTH Air Force, in action against enemy forces on 5 April 1944, in the China-Burma-India Theater of Action. After pilot had been hit by flack and killed, Lieutenant Pittman took the plane up to the altitude necessary for some of the crew to parachute out. First Lieutenant Pittman’s unquestionable valor in aerial combat is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflects great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
