(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Major (Corps of Engineers) Lawrence H. Phillips (ASN: 0-916722), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with U.S. Army Engineers, in action against enemy forces from 23 October 1944 to 15 March 1944. Major Phillips was selected for a highly classified mission of the Philippine Regional Section and in November 1943 he was dispatched to Mindoro to install radio stations and intelligence nets. He was killed by a Japanese patrol on 15 March 1944. Major Phillips’ extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
