(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Second Lieutenant (Armor) Weeden Arthur Petree, Jr. (ASN: 0-422569), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company A, 194th Tank Battalion, Provisional Tank Group, U.S. Army Forces in the Far East (USAFFE), in action against enemy forces on 5 January 1942 in the vicinity of Remedios, Bataan, Philippine Islands. Lieutenant Petree was mortally wounded while smothering tracer ammunition fire from the enemy which was holding up the advance of American Tanks. Second Lieutenant Petree’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
