(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Technical Sergeant Clayton W. Pearson (ASN: 37070351), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as Platoon Sergeant, Company G, 2d Battalion, 137th Infantry Regiment, 35th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces in Germany, on 27 February 1945. When his platoon, advancing through a wooded area, was pinned to position by fire from a well-concealed enemy emplacement, Technical Sergeant Pearson crawled forward alone, killed one German who emerged from the strongpoint, and threw a grenade through the opening to destroy the weapon. Technical Sergeant Pearson’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 35th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
