The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain (Air Corps) Edward J. Pawlowski, United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while serving as Pilot of a B-25 Bomber of the 11th Bombardment Squadron, 341st Bombardment Group, FOURTEENTH Air Force, in action on 14 October 1944, in the China Theater of Operations. Captain Pawloswski descended into the fortified Amoy, China, harbor in spite of heavy fire and pressed home his attack on an enemy merchantman, leaving it in flames. After this destructive attack, he turned to bomb a shore-side oil dump and then proceeded to strafe the hanger on a nearby airfield. These attacks were made from mast-high level and without top cover by friendly fighters. His outstanding courage and dedication to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
