The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Second Lieutenant (Infantry), [then Technical Sergeant] Paul F. Musick (ASN: 0-2000524), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company C, 1st Battalion, 175th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division. On 26 November 1944, during a strong enemy counterattack in Germany, Lieutenant Musick, then a Platoon Sergeant, moved through enemy mortar and artillery fire to a point of vantage from which he could direct return fire which forced enemy infantry to take cover. With no thought to his own personal safety, he faced enemy tank and sniper fire to reach a discarded light tank. Finding out that it would not start, he manned its 37-mm gun until the enemy tanks withdrew. He then courageously worked his way forward and killed the three snipes. Lieutenant Musick then repaired a three inch gun, gathered a make-shift crew together and fired six rounds into a building believed to be an enemy observation post. The extraordinary heroism and courageous actions of Lieutenant Musick reflect the highest credit upon himself are in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
