Moses (ASN: 0-706629), United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy in action as Bombardier of a B-25J Mitchell bomber in the 428th Bombardment Squadron, 310th Bombardment Group (Medium), TWELFTH Air Force, in action against enemy forces on 18 September 1944, in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations. On that date, a flak burst struck the plane directly under the bombardier’s compartment, causing it to crash into another B-25. The aircraft crew was short one parachute and Second Lieutenant Moses assisted the other crew members in parachuting from the plane. However, without a parachute, he was forced to remain with the plane and died when it subsequently crashed. Second Lieutenant Moses’ unquestionable valor in aerial combat, at the cost of his life, is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflects great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
