Moran (ASN: 0-689330), United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as Pilot of an A-20 Bomber of the 84th Bombardment Squadron, 17th Bombardment Group, TWELFTH Air Force, in action against enemy forces on 22 April 1945, in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations. Although seriously wounded, Lieutenant Moran succeeded in guiding his damaged plane from an 80 foot altitude to 4,000 feet, and thus enabled his companions to bail out safety, before his plane crashed and he was killed in action. First Lieutenant Moran’s unquestionable valor in aerial combat is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflects great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
