When the platoon leader was killed, Sergeant Mishakas took over the unit members and led them in a flanking action. In addition, he heaved four grenades, enough for a strike against an enemy stronghold. His gallant actions enabled his platoon to reach the top of the hill, against an enemy fortress. Private First Class Mishakas’ extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 3d Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
