The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Lieutenant (Cavalry) Warren Arthur Minton (ASN: 0-362251), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Troop C, 1st Squadron, 26th Cavalry Regiment, Philippine Scouts, U.S. Army Forces in the Far East (USAFFE), in action against enemy forces in the Philippine Islands, on 13 January 1942, in the Philippine Islands. First Lieutenant Minton participated with outstanding distinction in a daring raid on the enemy-held town of Tuguegarao which, with its adjacent airport, constituted a most important strategic stronghold to the invading Japanese. His dauntless courage and command ability, reflected in exceptional advantage, and success of attack, and resulted in the destruction of all enemy aircraft, the killing of 110 enemy soldiers, the scattering of 300 more, and complete neutralization of all radio and telephonic lines. His exceptional judgment and unfaltering devotion to duty contributed to the heroic defense of the Philippine Islands. First Lieutenant Minton’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
