    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Lieutenant (Corps of Engineers) Keith E. Miller, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with the 40th Engineer Combat Regiment (Separate), attached to the 45th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces in Sicily, on 10 July 1943. During landing operations on the coast of Sicily, Lieutenant Miller, with a small party of riflemen, while on reconnaissance for landing ship tank site, was fired upon by enemy machine guns. Leaving two riflemen to cover his movement, he flanked the enemy position. At very close range and under fire, he succeed in reducing three pillboxes and capturing 30 enemy troops. First Lieutenant Miller’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
