    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Captain (Air Corps) James Eugene Miles, Jr. (ASN: 0-404172), United States Army Air Forces, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving as Pilot of an A-20 Havoc Bomber of the 86th Bombardment Squadron, 47th Bombardment Group (Light), TWELFTH Air Force, in aerial operations in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations, in 1943. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Miles, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.

The personal courage and zealous devotion to duty displayed by Captain Miles on this occasion, at the cost of his life, have upheld the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 12th Air Force, and the United States Army Air Forces.
