(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal William P. McPherson, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with the 17th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron, 15th Cavalry Group (Separate), NINTH U.S. Army, in action against enemy forces in Germany, on 3 March 1945. Corporal McPherson dismounted from an armored car and with a sub-machine gun advanced in the face of deadly enemy fire to supervise evacuation of a disabled vehicle. Then he assaulted a strongly defended house to emerge a few minutes later with 28 prisoners and a burned out weapon. Corporal McPherson’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
