(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Colonel (General Staff Corps) William V. McCreight, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Headquarters, U.S. Forces, Buna, in action against enemy forces from 1 December 1942 to 25 January 1943, during the Papuan Campaign in New Guinea. Colonel McCreight’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the U.S. Forces, Buna, and the United States Army.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Colonel (General Staff Corps) William Valentine McCreight, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Assistant Chief of Staff, G-4, U.S. Forces, Buna, from 1 December 1942 to 25 January 1943. Colonel McCreight won the admiration of Australian commanders and made important contributions to the success of operations with the Buna forces and in the operations in Papua. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Colonel McCreight and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Army.
