During heavy combat with the Japanese, Private McCormick failed to hear an order to withdraw, and continued advancing alone, inflicting numerous casualties upon the enemy. Finding a wounded companion, he then dragged him 100 yards under heavy fire, to safety. Private McCormick’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
