    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Technical Sergeant Richard E. Roe (ASN: 20546412), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Task Force Galahad, 5307th Composite Unit (Provisional) (Merrill’s Marauders, in Burma, on 16 June 1944. Technical Sergeant Roe crawled forward and grenaded a Japanese machine gun that was raking his unit, and was killed during his heroic deed. Technical Sergeant Roe’s initiative, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty, at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 29th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
