    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Sergeant Randolph Frank Mattison (ASN: 12045588), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with the Anti-Tank Platoon, 2d Squadron, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, in action against enemy forces near Novaliches, Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 3 February 1945. Sergeant Mattison drove off an entire Japanese platoon and motor convoy with his machine gun. His extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
