    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private First Class Raymond Eugene Manz (ASN: 36870534), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Troop A, 42d Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron (Mechanized), 2d Cavalry Group (Separate), THIRD U.S. Army, in action against enemy forces near Rosendorf, Czechoslovakia, on 30 April 1945. While eliminating a Nazi SS roadblock at Hostau, in the rescue of the Lipizzaner horses, Private First Class Manz was slightly wounded. Later, during a subsequent German counterattack, he was mortally wounded while trying to establish a more effective field of fire that resulted in a barrage that eliminated all German resistance in the area. Private First Class Manz’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
