(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Captain (Infantry) Fred P. Lohr, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as Commanding Officer of a Heavy Weapons Company of the 25th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces near Pinienta, Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 29 January 1945. Fighting in an exposed position for three hours, Captain Lohr directed his unit against 300 tank-supported Japanese until his ammunition was expended. He then moved to his mortar position and directed the fire until the enemy had been repulsed. Captain Lohr’s outstanding leadership, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
